Xenia Wiest

Ex Directrice artistique de la compagnie Ballett Schwerin

She began taking jazz dance and ballet classes simultaneously. At the age of 14, she finally decided to become a professional ballet dancer. She took her first steps at a private "Académie de danse" school in Braunschweig with her teacher and close friend Marie-Françoise Géry. At the age of 16, Xenia joined the John Cranko School in Stuttgart, graduating in 2003. The same year she received her first engagement at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, followed by a guest contract as soloist at the Görlitz Theater.

From 2004 to 2014, she worked at Staatsballett Berlin under the direction of Vladimir Malakhov. Since August 2014, the company has been directed by Nacho Duato. Over the last ten years, she has had the opportunity to work with and dance ballets by world-renowned choreographers such as George Balanchine, Maurice Béjart, William Forsythe, Mauro Bigonzetti, Angelin Prejlocaj and Marco Goecke.

She presented her first work at the "Shut up & Dance" ballet evening for young choreographers in 2005. Due to its great success and popularity with the public, this event was organised again in 2007 with the cooperation of the famous Berghain Club in Berlin and in 2010 at the Komische Opera Berlin. Since then, Xenia has created numerous choreographies and commissioned works for dancers from all over the world.
